Apollo-Vredestein was the first organisation to have an AmperaPort installed in Enschede. We discussed this with Manfred Rudolf, Sustainability Manager Europe at Apollo-Vredestein and asked why they opted for a solar carport.
“The AmperaPort provides an efficient use of space. You park your car and generate green electricity at the same time. In addition, the car is covered, which leads to a more pleasant temperature in summer and winter. We use less heating and air conditioning. This provides an extra piece of comfort and energy saving.”

“Apollo-Vredestein tries to keep the carbon footprint of its products as low as possible. To achieve this, we look for opportunities to reduce CO2 emissions as much as possible at our production sites and in the supply chain. We also try to take this into account when purchasing raw materials.”
“Yes, but the transition to sustainable alternatives requires major investments. Therefore, the transition cannot go fast enough for me.”
“As a company, you obviously have to make a contribution to the survival of the earth. We have to be economical with the raw materials we have. That is why we are also looking at reusing waste, as is done in the circular economy. With this, we hope to improve our waste management. Water usage during the production process is also very important. We have to use water sparingly because it is getting drier everywhere. In the long run, we also see that things are changing and we have to go along with this as a company.”
“The AmperaPort ensures efficient use of space. You park your car and generate green electricity at the same time. In addition, the car is covered, which leads to a more pleasant temperature in summer and winter. We use less heating and air conditioning. This provides an extra piece of comfort and energy saving.
Other sustainable effects are achieved through the use of wooden uprights. The wood naturally stores CO2, which in turn reduces CO2 emissions. In addition, the design of the AmperaPort is also very cool to see.”
“We are the first party to install an AmperaPort, which is something to be proud of. Being the first party to develop an AmperaPort is always difficult. There are many things that need to be sorted out and realised. We have been very pleased with Richard in this respect. He has pulled the project off well, has always fulfilled agreements well, and has solved unforeseen shortcomings well. It is normal for things to go wrong with the installation of a prototype. But this was not the case with AmperaPark. We are therefore very satisfied with our AmperaPort.
We’ve been using the AmperaPort for a couple of years now and we expected to generate 17 to 18 MWh per year. In the end, the yield was even higher than expected.”
